Instructional Support

From preschool to special education, Hoover City Schools' Instructional Support department encompasses a number of areas designed to enhance the learning process.

Special Education – Students must meet set criteria for specific disabilities in order to receive special education services. Their disability must adversely impact their educational performance to the extent that they require specially designed instruction. An Individualized Education Program (IEP) for each student defines the goals and services.

English Learners (EL)- Students who have a home language background other than English who are not proficient in speaking, listening, reading, and writing are eligible for English as a Second Language (ESL) services. An English Learner's plan is developed and implemented to provide supplemental services for the students.

Enrichment – Students who display above average general and/or specific abilities, high levels of task commitment, and high levels of creativity in grades 3-5 must meet specific criteria to qualify for Talent Pool (pull-out) service. The enrichment teacher collaborates with general classroom teachers at other grade levels to enable them to provide enrichment opportunities in the classroom. Middle school students have opportunities to participate in academic competitions and participate in Independent Studies. In high school, advanced courses and AP classes are offered.

Homebound Services - Students with significant illnesses and are unable to attend school maybe eligible for our Homebound Services.  Contact your child's school principal or counselor for more information.
